So you have recently set up as a Virtual Assistant. You’ve checked all the boxes on your set-up checklist, got all your software ready, decided your rates, designed your logo, you’re ready to go and now all you need is some clients. But where from?

This is a question so many new Virtual Assistants ask, which means you’re definitely not alone.

A lot of the time when I see this question raised in VA support groups the same old answers pop up, social media marketing, networking, sites like Upwork or Fiver (which I personally wouldn’t recommend, but that’s a different blog post). One particular method I don’t see mentioned, but a hidden gem none the less that I would like to throw in the mix is Email Marketing.

Now this might sound a little left field if it’s not in the common list people throw out there but I’m going to give you 5 reasons you need to be using Email Marketing:

1) Relationship building

Sending frequent (not spammy though) emails lets people get to know you & builds positive relationships with them. It keeps you in the forefront of people’s minds. Really it’s just like talking to many people on a regular basis, like networking but on a larger scale in less time.

2) Warm Leads

How would it feel to have a list of warm leads to sell to instead of cold leads? If people hear from you regularly, they will get to know you and your experience, when they want to buy, they’re more likely to come to someone they already know. Also, they’re on your list and stay on your list as they want to hear from you.

3) Organisation of Contacts

You can group or segment your contacts however you wish. Maybe how they found you/their location/their behaviour or many other things. You can then use that information to target your messaging to them accordingly.

4) Personalisation

All the same information I just mentioned above can help you personalise your messaging, making them feel you are more invested in taking an interest in them and in turn they will return that interest, likely by buying from you or by recommending you to others.

5) Cost Effective

Email marketing with Mailerlite starts out free! It’s just a matter of your time to set it up and write the emails, and if you’ve nailed your ideal client this should flow for you quite easily. Also according to Hubspot, at the time of writing this blog, email marketing has a 300 times better conversion rate than social media – is that a free resource you can afford to miss out on?

Hopefully now you realise why growing your email list and email marketing should be top of your priority list on your marketing strategy. Help yourself stand out from the rest of the VA crowd with this absolute gem of a tool and let’s not overlook the obvious, not only are you promoting your business but it’s a great way to showcase your skills
